Operations by Robot
Students in this freshman course, "Fundamentals of Engineering Design" at New Jersey Institute of Technology, spend the semester in small groups, each building a robot to perform a particular procedure on an edible subject. One group must remove a seed from a grape; another must reattach the severed head of a chocolate Easter bunny. The engineering problems are fanciful, but the purpose is to teach students how to design original solutions to biomedical challenges.
