Open Admissions at CUNY

Patrick Healy portrays the 1970 decision by the City University of New York to institute open admissions as a response to student and faculty demands to enroll more minority students ("Can City College Restore Its Luster by Ending Open Admissions?," July 7). It was, but only indirectly. Student protesters at City College did not demand open admissions, but rather that admissions to the college reflect the racial makeup of the city's high
