One Virtual University Gets a New Head; Another Opens

It was a big week for two distance-learning ventures. The California Virtual University named a former University of Pennsylvania provost, Stanley A. Chodorow, as its first chief executive officer. His tasks include expanding the operation (http://www.california.edu), which now involves 98 public and private colleges and universities.
