'One Size Fits All' Is Not the Way Accreditation Should Work

"A Common Yardstick?" (August 15) raises the question of whether regional accreditors should use the same types of numerical standards that are used by national accreditors. In fact, using the national accreditors' approach would interfere with the regional accreditors' current ability to support the rich and broad selection of American colleges and universities by limiting their ability to judge the quality of diverse institutions individually.
