One Baseball Coach's Game Plan: Push Back the Season

Gene Stephenson is not a doom-and-gloom guy, but he believes college baseball is at a crossroads. The longtime head coach at Wichita State University, a perennial baseball power, says the sport needs an extreme makeover if it is to survive likely budget cuts in many major-college programs.

His idea: Move back opening day from February to April, after college basketball ends, and extend the season through late August.
