On One Campus, a Return to Normalcy
The white cotton sheets on which students wrote thousands of messages and prayers last September 12 are now folded and locked in a cabinet in the Memorial Chapel here at the University of Maryland. Soon to be ushered into the university's vault, the 30 makeshift banners show little wear. A few sheets have pink and green splotches where ink has run, but most of the words were written in permanent black markers that fixed the moment to fabric.
