Ole Miss Offers an Apprentice Program for Its Maintenance Workers

University employees apply for the program. If accepted, they are paid for four years while they train under experienced supervisors. Ten years after its inception, the program provides the university with a stable supply of home-grown maintenance employees.
And in the small town of Oxford, Miss., skilled craftsmen looking for work are hard to come by, says Larry D. Sparks, the university's vice chancellor for administration and finance.
