Oklahoma State U.'s Football Coach Demands to Know, 'Who's the Kid Here?'

At a news conference last weekend, Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State University’s football coach, publicly blasted a local newspaper columnist in a tirade that’s become an instant classic on the Internet. The trouble started when the reporter, Jenni Carlson, wrote a front-page column for the The Oklahoman suggesting that coaches had benched the team’s starting quarterback because he had a poor attitude and lacked toughness.

Mr. Gundy begged to differ. During the news conference, he screamed enough for four quarters of football. He called the column inaccurate. He told Ms. Carlson that he hoped that someday someone belittled her child. Near the end of the fiery three-minute speech, he asked, “Who’s the kid here?” As he stormed out of the room, he added that the whole thing made him want to “puke.” —Eric Hoover
