The University of Georgia suspended the Chi Phi fraternity on Friday pending an investigation into reports that several pledges flashed pictures of nude black women to passers-by last week while other fraternity members photographed the reactions of the people confronted, the Athens Banner reported. Under the suspension, the chapter is barred from holding any meetings or social events.
The police forwarded information they collected about seven students to the university’s judicial program.
The fraternity’s president, Matthew Hughes, said that the chapter was “embarrassed” about the incident, which he said was not sanctioned by the fraternity. Fraternity leaders are working with the university and conducting an internal investigation to find out what happened, he said.
