Not Conservative, but Diverse

To the Editor:

I was pleased to see that William Pannapacker's spirited essay discussed the Valve, the new Weblog launched by the Association of Literary Scholars and Critics ("Venting Steam in the Blogosphere," The Chronicle Review, July 29).

In response, I would like to suggest that the ALSC is a far more varied association than the one he describes. From his piece, one would suppose the ALSC to be a conservative organization devoted only to "the restoration of traditional
