To the Editor:
I was co-counsel on the 1981 Supreme Court case of Widmar v. Vincent, cited in the story on Christian student groups ("Choosing Their Flock," The Chronicle, January 28). I have also served on the boards of the Christian Legal Society and the Alliance Defense Fund.
The Supreme Court held in Widmar that an open forum for various student groups, including religious groups, does not establish religion. It merely establishes freedom.
