Northwestern U. Suspends Team Over Hazing Incident

Northwestern University suspended its women’s soccer team on Monday after a Web site published photographs of an alleged hazing incident.

The photographs, which were apparently posted by a Northwestern player on a student file-sharing network, show members of the team dressed only in underwear and blindfolded with their hands bound. Two images show players performing lap dances for players on the Northwestern men’s soccer team, according to captions allegedly written by players.

Northwestern’s Office of Student Affairs plans to investigate the incident. Until the investigation is completed, the team is not allowed to participate in any organized athletics activities, Mark Murphy, Northwestern’s athletics director, said in a written statement. The soccer season begins in the fall.
