North Dakota Campus Closes as Flood Waters Threaten

Valley City State University has shut down for the rest of the week as the Sheyenne River threatens to top the city’s levees. About half the population of the North Dakota city has been urged to evacuate, the Forum, in Fargo, N.D., reported today.

Only one minor breach of the levees is apparent so far, but city officials said the levee system is under a lot of stress, with the river expected to crest at a record 22 feet on Wednesday night. —Megan Eckstein
