Nokia Buys Carnegie Mellon Students' Software Company

A Pittsburgh company created by graduate students at Carnegie Mellon University and backed by a venture-capital firm that specializes in university-based spinoff companies is being sold to Nokia, the Finnish telephone manufacturer, for $21-million.

The deal, announced in April, is a coup not only for the company, Eizel Technologies, but also for its lead financial backer, ITU Ventures. That three-year old venture-capital firm is one of only a few that focus exclusively on companies
