Newly Independent New College Puts Its Leader on Leave
New College is off to a rough start.
Less than two weeks after the affiliate of the University of South Florida formally became the state's 11th public college, its trustees in July put the campus's top official on a paid sabbatical.
Michael S. Bassis told the trustees before their first meeting that he didn't want to be the institution's interim president. That seemed fine with some members of the faculty, which had endorsed a former top administrator and professor for the job
