New York Regents vs. Religious College

Sara Hebel rather credulously accepts the excuse offered by some New York State officials who are eager to recast the dispute with the King's College as a straightforward matter of diligent public servants attempting to uphold academic standards ("An Evangelical College Fends for Itself in the Heart of Manhattan," The Chronicle, June 17).

The diligent public servants had indeed done their job last year when they unanimously recommended to the New York Board of
