New President Will Have Unpresidential Role at U. of Denver; Top Official at U. of Rochester Hospital Quits; Politician to Lead Another Florida University

IDENTITY CRISIS: Sometimes a president isn't really a president, according to the chancellor of the University of Denver, Daniel L. Ritchie.

This month, Mr. Ritchie hired Marc Holtzman, 43, to fill a newly created presidency. Faculty members at the private university learned about the move at a hastily called news conference.

There, Leon G. Giles, a finance professor and president of the Faculty Senate, complained about the lack of faculty and student involvement in hiring Mr.
