New Mexico Highlands U. Liable in Title IX Lawsuit
A federal jury found last week that New Mexico Highlands University had discriminated against female athletes and coaches. The university was accused of failing to give women as much scholarship money, equipment, and other benefits as men.
Three former coaches of women's teams and four former athletes sued the university in 1997, accusing it of violating Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The law bars sex discrimination at institutions that receive
