New Mexico Acts to Save Scholarship Program
New Mexico lawmakers last month approved a bill to help the state's financially strapped lottery program for scholarships. But even with the fixes, the merit-based program could face a $700,000 shortfall in the next academic year.
The measure, which is expected to be signed by Gov. Gary E. Johnson, a Republican, increases the amount of lottery revenues going to the scholarship program. Under the plan, revenues would be evenly split between school construction
