New Mellon Grants Spur Jockeying Among University Presses
DASHING FOR DOLLARS: In May, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation startled university presses with a sudden call for proposals "aimed at encouraging the publication of excellent scholarly monographs" in underserved areas of the humanities. Mellon's letter, which went to the directors of all U.S.-based academic presses, gave them until June 20 to respond.
