The troubled University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey has a new interim leader. He is Bruce Vladeck, an expert on health-care policy who directed the Medicare and Medicaid programs during the Clinton administration, the Associated Press reports. Mr. Vladeck was nominated by the state’s new governor, Jon S. Corzine, who forced out the university’s previous leader as one of his first acts after taking office in January (The Chronicle, January 24). University trustees voted unanimously this morning to endorse the choice of Mr. Vladeck. The university has been beset with troubles since early last year, including allegations of Medicare fraud, the arrival of a federal monitor of its finances, conflicts of interest among its board members, the alleged use of grant money to make political donations, and the apparent theft of documents sought in a federal investigation.
