New Doctors From Abroad
To the Editor:
The obvious increase needed in the number of U.S. medical-school graduates does not require increasing the number of residency positions paid for through Medicare and Medicaid by state and federal governments ("A Growth Spurt for Medical Schools," The Chronicle, January 12).
Although the Association of American Medical Colleges, the trade organization for American medical schools, has been lobbying to increase the number of such positions, the fact remains that
