Four former and current athletics administrators have created a consulting firm to help high-school and college athletics departments navigate what the officials call an “increasingly litigious” environment for intercollegiate and interscholastic sports.
The president and founder of the new firm, Sports Management Resources, is Donna A. Lopiano, a prominent advocate of Title IX, former chief executive of the Women’s Sports Foundation, and former athletics director at the University of Texas at Austin. The firm’s senior associates are Bob Frederick, former athletics director and current faculty member at the University of Kansas; Christine Grant, former women’s athletics director at the University of Iowa; and Connee Zotos, athletics director at Drew University.
The firm will offer consulting advice in several areas, including strategic planning, gender equity, and “comprehensive integrity” assessments.
“The job of an athletic director is not an easy one,” Ms. Lopiano said in a written statement. “All of us now are at a point in our careers where we can share our successes and help others learn from our mistakes.” —Libby Sander
