New Command in Canada; a Nursing School Gets Its First Dean; a Chancellor Moves to the Lab
TOP BRASS: Memorial University of Newfoundland went for a star when it looked for a new chancellor. The new leader of the Canadian university is Gen. Richard J. (Rick) Hillier, who retired on July 2 as chief of the Defence Staff, the Canadian equivalent of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the United States.
General Hillier, who has a reputation as a straight-talking and charismatic top soldier, is among the university's best-known graduates. He said in a prepared statement that
