New Admissions System at U. of Michigan to Seek Diversity Through Essays
The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor announced last week that it had devised a new, essay-driven undergraduate-admissions process to replace the point-based system that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down in a key affirmative-action ruling in June.
University officials said that the new admissions policy would maintain diversity on the campus while complying with the Supreme Court's requirement that colleges treat applicants as individuals, and not automatically give some an edge
