A WRITER'S WRITER: On his deathbed, Henry James revealed what may have been his true ambition: to be Napoleon. James signed one of his last letters with the name of the Corsican conqueror, and left instructions for work to be carried out on the Louvre. But it may not have been the age-old desire to rule the world that compelled James to identify with Bonaparte, says Andy Martin. It may have been the little tyrant's talents as a writer.
