NYU Settles With Scholar Who Was Denied Tenure After Backing TA Union
New York University settled a claim last week with a former professor who was denied tenure after voicing support for a graduate-student union drive. The university agreed to expunge all records of his tenure denial and pay him $15,000.
Joel Westheimer, who was an assistant professor of education at NYU, filed the charges in October with the National Labor Relations Board, alleging that he was illegally denied tenure last year. He claims the university didn't grant him tenure because
