NYU Journalism Dept. Hires 12 Faculty Members, Including Some Big Names; Community-College President Takes Paid Leave After No-Confidence Vote

NEWS EXPANSION: New York University's journalism department just increased its faculty by an unprecedented 60 percent.

Among the 12 new hires are Ted Conover, the author of four nonfiction books; James McBride, who wrote The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother (Riverhead, 1997); Charles Seife, a writer for Science magazine; and Steve Twomey, a longtime reporter for The Washington Post and The Philadelphia Inquirer.
