NSF Report Confirms Drop in Foreign Graduate Enrollments

Confirming previously reported data, the National Science Foundation has released statistics indicating that graduate enrollments of foreign students in American science and engineering programs dropped in 2004 for the third straight year. The NSF data mirror statistics for 2004 released last year by the Council of Graduate Schools (The Chronicle, November 1, 2005). But since then the council has reported that applications from foreign students for graduate study in science and engineering are up this year by double-digit percentages after experiencing steep drops over the last two years (The Chronicle, March 23).
