NSF May Not Get Huge Budget Increase

Despite strong bipartisan support in Congress, the National Science Foundation may not receive all of the large budget increase it is seeking, a key Republican lawmaker warned at a Congressional hearing last week.

Rep. James T. Walsh, a New York Republican who heads the House appropriations subcommittee that drafts the N.S.F.'s budget, began the hearing by saying that "our allocation may not allow for all the money you requested." But he reiterated that both
