NSF Cancels RSVP Project, Dismaying Physicists
The National Science Foundation has canceled a high-energy-physics project that several universities had planned to operate at Brookhaven National Laboratory, after the estimated costs of construction and operation doubled.
Some physicists lamented the move as another in a series of signs that leadership in the discipline is switching from the United States to Europe, where a major new particle accelerator is under construction near Geneva, Switzerland.
