NIH's Minority-Training Programs Lack Data on Success, Report Says

The National Institutes of Health lacks sufficient data to judge the effectiveness of its programs to train members of minority groups as researchers, according to a report by the National Research Council. But the programs should continue to focus on recruiting minority researchers because they have found the training helpful and because they remain underrepresented in science, the report says.

The NIH had 79 such programs in 2001 scattered over 17 of its institutes and centers,
