NIH Takes Control of Foundation's Chimpanzees
Officials of the National Institutes of Health have taken control of nearly 300 chimpanzees from the Coulston Foundation, which is accused of harming and neglecting the animals used for medical research.
The N.I.H.'s action follows a settlement reached last September between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Coulston Foundation, based in Alamogordo, N.M. The department had charged Coulston with violations of the Animal Welfare Act, including allowing
