NIH Proceeds With On-Line Archive for Papers in the Life Sciences

Agency says its controversial plan will remove barriers to sharing research findings

The National Institutes of Health announced last week that it would proceed with creating a controversial on-line archive of scholarly papers in the life sciences that will be freely available to all. The archive has attracted the ardent opposition of some scholarly societies and for-profit journal publishers.
