NIH Awards Pioneer Grants
The National Institutes of Health announced last month the first nine recipients of its new NIH Director's Pioneer Awards. The five-year, $500,000 grants are intended to support researchers who study highly innovative ideas that could lead to big advances in medicine.
The awards are among the centerpieces of the agency's Roadmap for Medical Research, an effort started last year by the NIH's director, Elias A. Zerhouni, to help the NIH do a better job of promoting novel, cutting-edge
