NCAA Punishes U. of Georgia
The National Collegiate Athletic Association said last week that a former assistant basketball coach at the University of Georgia was guilty of academic fraud and unethical conduct, and that Georgia's basketball program would be placed on probation and would lose scholarships for the next three years.
The university's athletics director, calling the sanctions excessive, said Georgia would appeal the decision.
