NCAA Punishes Ohio State U. for Improper Payments by 2 Basketball Coaches and a Booster

The NCAA has placed Ohio State University on probation for three years after finding that two former men's basketball coaches made an improper $6,000 payment to a recruit's mother and a booster provided lodging and wrote term papers for another men's basketball player.

As part of its penalty, Ohio State must repay to the NCAA about $800,000 in earnings from the NCAA tournaments in the 1998-99 through 2001-2 academic years.
