NCAA Places Prairie View A&M U. on Probation for Repeated Rules Violations
The National Collegiate Athletic Association has placed Prairie View A&M University on probation for four years after finding that several women's basketball coaches improperly contacted recruits and provided players with small cash payments and other extra benefits.
The problems followed a 2001 finding of major violations in Prairie View's football program, and that history was a factor in the unusually harsh penalty.
