NCAA Penalizes St. John's U. for Cash Payments to Men's Basketball Player
The National Collegiate Athletic Association has placed St. John's University, in New York, on probation for two years after finding that a staff member had made regular cash payments to a men's basketball player during his college career.
Abraham Keita, a former St. John's player, did not qualify for a basketball scholarship during his freshman year, but Alex Evans, then a director of basketball operations at the university, gave the player $2,400 toward his tuition, according to a
