NCAA Penalizes Oklahoma Panhandle State U. for Academic Fraud

The National Collegiate Athletic Association has placed Oklahoma Panhandle State University on probation for three years after finding that a former softball coach there helped two players cheat in a course he taught.

The committee found that on two occasions during the 2001-2 academic year, the coach, Steve Kissel, acted unethically.

In one instance, he allowed one of his players to use a term paper written by someone else to receive credit for academic work.
