NCAA Leader Defends Title IX
Amid debate over a federal commission's report on gender equity in sports, the National Collegiate Athletic Association's president called on the U.S. secretary of education to preserve and strengthen Title IX.
"Title IX is not broken, and it does not need to be fixed," said Myles Brand, referring to the 1972 law that bans sex discrimination at educational institutions receiving federal funds. "It needs to remain in place in its current form for it to be fully successful."
