My Summer Reading List
Summer has always meant reading: not just preparation for the fall, but free, unbridled permission to read anything and everything. I remember the morning I received my first library card -- a warm June day in Bay Shore, Long Island. In return for the simple act of printing my name in my rambling 4-year-old's print, I could have any book from the children's room. And so, for me, the smell of summer is a curious blend of roses, sea salt, and vellum.
