In the late 19th century, Eadweard Muybridge created these groundbreaking studies of human motion by using multiple cameras to take photographs in quick succession. The Chronicle's Ron Coddington has animated several of Muybridge's sequences of photos, shown below. The images were obtained from the Corcoran Gallery of Art, which has an exhibit of Muybridge's work.
