Movie Archivists Promote Easing of Copyright Restrictions
Film preservationists and archivists are urging Congress to approve legislation that would make it easier for scholars to restore old movies that are protected by copyright.
Under the measure, which supporters call the Public Domain Enhancement Act, copyright holders would pay a $1 fee every 50 years in order to continue having each of their works copyrighted. Those who do not pay the fee would have their works automatically fall into the public domain.
