Most Summer Programs Tied to Academic Mission
To the Editor:
Thank you for highlighting the efforts of campus conference-and-event offices ("Campuses for Hire," Short Subjects, The Chronicle, August 5). While the programs mentioned in the article are interesting, conference offices exist primarily for programs that support the academic mission of the institution. On average, about 70 percent of summer programming originates within the campus itself. Revenue from these largely self-supporting programs helps to keep costs down and
