More Women Lead Community Colleges
The percentage of community-college presidencies held by women has increased significantly in the last five years, but members of minority groups have not gained ground, according to a survey by the American Association of Community Colleges.
In 1996, 17.8 percent of presidents at the nation's 1,200 community colleges were women. By 2001, that figure had jumped to 27.8 percent. Members of minority groups accounted for some 14 percent of presidents in 1996.
