Montclair State University’s student newspaper and student government are butting heads once again over the former’s ability to report on the latter.
Last year a legal battle over the government’s practice of meeting in private led to the temporary shutdown of the printed newspaper when the government froze its budget. The budget was later restored, and the newspaper decided that it could ensure its editorial freedom only by cutting ties with the government — a process that was completed in July.
Now they are back at it. The student newspaper, The Montclarion, has filed a lawsuit over the Student Government Association’s refusal to disclose what happened during a closed meeting last month,
