Molly Broad Will Lead American Council on Education

Molly Corbett Broad, the former University of North Carolina system president who raised tuition and helped win approval of a $3.1-billion bond issue for campus construction, has been named president of the American Council on Education.

Ms. Broad, who will succeed David Ward on May 1, will be the first woman to lead the umbrella organization since it was founded in 1918.

An economist by training, Ms. Broad served as president of the North Carolina system from 1997 to 2006. One
