Miss. Desegregation Plan Would Set Racial Enrollment Goals
Mississippi's three historically black universities would have to meet numerical goals for enrolling nonblack students before they could receive money from two proposed endowments, under the state's latest proposal for settling a 26-year-old desegregation lawsuit.
Under the 25-page, almost $500-million plan -- a copy of which was obtained by The Chronicle -- the state also would allow historically black Jackson State University to be commonly referred to as a "comprehensive"
