Minority Ph.D. Students Prepare to Step In as Baby Boomers Retire

The road to a doctoral degree can be rocky. But at a gathering here of more than 1,000 minority Ph.D. students, their mentors, and junior faculty members, the mantra was "Stay the course. The professoriate needs you."
The Compact for Faculty Diversity's annual Institute on Teaching and Mentoring, a four-day event that ended Sunday, featured dozens of workshops and networking opportunities for graduate students who are earning their doctorates.
